Abstract

This study sought to determine the primary school teachers' level of awareness of science process skills, as a basis for their successfully facilitating the pupils' acquisition of those skills. Three research questions guided the study. The design was purely a descriptive survey using 200 primary school teachers randomly sampled from different education zones in Anambra state. Data were collected using a 15-item questionnaire which the respondents were requested to complete. Data were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages, Results of the study indicated that most primary school teachers: (1) have heard of science process skills, (2) are knowledgeable in the basic process skills but not in the integrative processes, (3) could not assess their pupils on each of the component skills, especially the integrative processes. Implications of these findings were also discussed.
