Abstract

The focus of this paper is on the use of Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) to enhance and further teaching and learning in Science Education. The incidence of waste management and disposal is a nagging one especially in public places with particular reference to institutions of higher learning. To tackle this problem and provide solution, an attempt is made to design a Computer Assisted Learning package which with minimum knowledge base of the student in computer operations and applications enables the student to place hands on the computer and enjoy modules of topics on waste management and disposal using the computer. To achieve this, CAL Program was written in BASIC (Q BASIC) by the authors and as students have access to the diskette containing this CAL Package, they can follow simple instructions to learn this package and take advantage of proper waste management procedures especially as relates to plastics or cellophane papers.
